As an immigrant from Ecuador, I offer a unique counseling approach to my diverse clientele. My ethnicity as a mestiza plays a vital role in my role as a counselor. Although mestiza is the cultural group I was born into and identify with, I have to say that I also find meaning in my family culture. Moving to the United States as a teenager helped me understand the challenges that an immigrant faces in fitting in a new culture. As I became an adult, I noticed how my background influences the way I think, feel and behave. I have sought training that has deepened my development of how the mind and body works.
My graduate degree in Health Psychology helped me understand the psychological factors involved in behavior and physical health and illness. Through my work with survivors of domestic violence and sexual abuse, I discovered my true calling as a counselor. Through advanced trainings in EDMR and SE, I developed the skills needed to support the mind-body in what is needed to move on from trauma. My work as a Registered Play Therapist brings me a lot of joy to see family dynamics at play and to foster change while building secure parent-child attachment, improving communication, and ultimately creating a deeper sense of love and respect for the members in a family. My trainings in Sandtray Therapy and Interpersonal Neurobiology training have opened my eyes to the world of attachment theory from the neurobiology perspective. In sum, I offer an array of approaches as I understand that there is not a single counseling approach that fits all.
