Hi! My name is Esteban (he/him/el)! I am a bilingual Licensed Professional Counselor-Associate (LPC-A) under the supervision of Ana Maria Cabezas, LPC-S, RPT, SEP. I primarily work with tween, teens, adults, and families ages 10+ through a clinical theory called Relational-Cultural Therapy (RCT). I believe that we as people are shaped by our need for connection and growth-fostering relationships. I also believe that larger social systems affect people and relationships and disconnections can be rooted in oppression and marginalization.
I will be learning from you in a collaborative manner to build a foundation of what a fulfilling life looks to you, as well as try to provide an environment where authenticity, empathy, and mutuality are present. The primary topics I focus on are topics regarding identity, relationship exploration (friends, family, partners), boundaries, empowerment, self-esteem, societal and community expectations, anxiousness, grief, and more! Alongside RCT, I also practice expressive arts, sandtray, solution-focused, somatic-tools, and mindfulness approaches to support the physical, spiritual, emotional needs of my clients!
I recently graduated with a Master’s degree in Professional Counseling from Texas State University in San Marcos, TX. During my time there I interned at Lifeworks where I gave individual and family therapy to clients; interned with a private practice where I facilitated two psychoeducational groups of mandated adult members on probation for sexual abuse behavior; and volunteered with Austin Center for Grief and Loss for a year and a half to provide adult and adolescent and grief support groups. Besides my masters, I also hold a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology with minors in Spanish and Mexican-American studies and have been a graduate researcher with Strengthening Relationships/ Strengthening Families where I worked with adolescent parents and developed research.
